Snow fun

Wearing new snow pants from Grandma Norma, Guillermo decides to taste his first snow before January. He liked it!

More school fun

Ah, snack time...the school favorite for Guillermo and his friend Benjamin...today they got chocolate chips as a special treat...it was cute to see them tossing them around! The clean-up after this part of class is especially gratifying ;)

1 year Well Child Exam

Guillermo had his 1 year exam a month late.

Stats are:

Weight: 26 lbs, 14 oz (93%)
Height: 32.5 in (99%)

There are some new words now too (yeah!). He is saying "cup" and "book" (well, he says "ook" but you get the drift). His new favorite activities include 'driving' his little truck around, dancing, being read to and giving 'gentle' pets to the cats.

We are hunkering down for winter, and I'm trying to think of some fun indoor activities since it's 20 degrees outside and the highs right now are only 39 or so.

Looking forward to another joy with the little guy.

Tiny Dancer

In my humble opinion, he's way cuter than that creepy dancing baby on that Ally McBeal..remember that creepy baby?

Happy late 1st birthday!

Happy Birthday to my one year old boy!! Better late than never...we've been in San Diego and fighting off colds. Here's a pic of the birthday boy on his birthday (he couldn't have cared less about his little birthday cupcake, but I think that was because he was getting sick), and in his COOL Star Wars shirt from his Aunt Lindsey...

Fall is in the air

The pic is a little bad since I took it with my phone, but this is a little pic of Guillermo helping our co-op leader peel an apple...yum yum. The apples peeled in our class went to feed the next day's class and we ate the apples peeled from the day before...ah, nothing like apples handled by toddlers...at least the apples were cooked :)

Happy 11 months!

I thought this was a better depiction of Guillermo's being 11 months old than the normal pic with the stuffed animal since it's nearly impossible to get a still shot of him anymore. This is his new favorite thing to do. This was our last HOT day, no more lazy days in diapers anymore...not until next year anyway!

10 months old

Happy 10 months! To celebrate, Guillermo took 3 steps at a party last night. He didn't know anyone but Bill and me, and didn't seem to think it was as big of a deal as we did. Today he's been doing little one steps and then crawling...but I'm getting the video camera ready! I wonder if I'll follow him around for weeks with the camera on the ready like when he crawled...of course I will!!

Notice that picture had to be taken while Guillermo was asleep. He doesn't cooperate with planned pictures so well anymore!

Guillermo's "School"

Here is the link to Guillermo's new pre-school that we'll be starting in September. How exciting!

9 1/2 month appt

Guillermo was a trooper at his 9 month appt (a little late, so 9.5 months really). He had his last Pediarix shot and screamed like a banshee, but all in all it was great. He only screamed during his shot and when the doctor decided to check his ears and heartbeat. Other than that, he was very brave. The odd news is that he has lost weight. This is the first time EVER for Guillermo. He has lost 2 ounces since we were there 3 weeks ago. The doctor seemed a bit confused by this since he should be tapering off, but not losing weight, but he said that Guillermo will most likely be one of those babies that stays the same weight until he's 18 months or so. My little chubby baby is going to turn into a lanky kid??? I like his rolls!!

Guillermo was also given the go-ahead to eat whatever he wants as long as it isn't strawberries, honey, peanut butter or any kind of nuts. This means he can start eating meat, eggs, and even ice cream (I think our doctor likes ice cream because he was all excited to tell me that Guillermo could eat it now!) Wow! He's turning into a big boy!

So, the new percentages are:

Weight: 23 lbs, 1 oz, 80%
Height: 30 inches, 90%

New cool mad skillz include standing on his own more and more along with taking ONE step! He did this for his dad the other night. I, unfortunately, was washing dishes and missed the action, but I'm ready and waiting for another such occasion. Yeah, Guillermo!

The boys go boating

The cousins meet

What fun to see the "Other Bombergers" this weekend before (and during) Steve and Cayla's wedding. Such a funny sight to see the different sizes in the family. Luckily all the boys seemed to get along great! We can't wait to meet up with them again mid-week at our house!

Mirror kissing

I was unpacking from shopping today, and not watching little G in his play area. His new 'toy' is a still unopened game box. I walked in to check on the little guy (it was too quiet, which usually means that he's eating something weird) and here he was standing on his box kissing himself. Oh my....I blame this habit on his father! By the way, is that thigh not totally delicious?

Happy 8 months!

Today Guillermo is 8 months old. Here are a few of the pics I managed to take as a temper tantrum was about to begin. There is no good way to take these pics anymore since all he wants is the camera...he doesn't appreciate the concept of taking pics to show his size at ALL!

So, the latest stats aren't going to come until he's 9 months old..but here are some 8 month accomplishments.

-starting to eat chunky food rather than just mush
-eating cheerio-like things...sometimes he can grasp with his thumb and forefinger, but often he just shoves them in however it best works for him at the moment
-saying mama and dada...mama is only said when angry or upset...dada is said all the time and might mean a lot of things
-likes to sing songs and watch mom do the motions...favorites are Royal Duke of York, Row Your Boat, Where is Guillermo?, Baby Beluga and Snuggle Puppy
-likes to play peekaboo
-crawls
-just started cruising around very thoughtfully
-favorite toys are measuring cups, Ocho (his octopus), soft blocks, an activity board he got from Grandmy and Grandpa Yellow, his activity table
-favorite foods include bananas of late, pears, carrots and yams
-hated foods include cantaloupe and cauliflower and peas

Happy 8 months baby boy!

Pancakes in the Park

Today we attended our first (hopefully of many) Pancakes in the Park breakfasts! These are pics of a fun little band the Guillermo was enthralled with watching. The wash basin with the broomstick is a type of bass. There are hole in the bottom and the notes are made by moving the broomstick back and forth. Very cool. Bill wants to make one. Anyway, back to Pancakes in the Park...the idea this: Pancake potluck breakfasts in the park. Invite your neighbors, share breakfast, play with the kids, make friends and build community. We provide the pancakes, syrup, butter, & gourmet coffee for all. Bring food or drink to share. I stole the words from the group's Facebook description. It was so nice to meet people from the community as well as see people we actually already knew...amazing.

Happy 7 months!

Guillermo turned 7 months old yesterday. He is growing up WAY to fast for me. From the pictures, you'll see that his new favorite thing to do is carry toys around in his mouth like a dog. His favorite 'toy' is a piece of the puzzle-piece mat that his toys are all kept on in our living room. There are tiny tooth marks all over the thing. He carries it all over the place. Needless to say, getting his 7 month picture with the puppy toy was way too difficult this month. We'll see how long I can keep doing it. In one shot, he's actually crying and laughing at the same time because he was so mad that I was trying to keep him still, so I decided the above shot was more telling of his seventh month 'tude.

Ta-Da!

The abrupt ending of this video is due to the impending doom of the cat involved. I was just in time when setting down the camera to grab Guillermo as he held on tight to a tuft of belly fur with his little fist. Luckily the cat is much more patient than anyone ever could have foreseen. Anyway, congrats to my baby and what a great Mother's Day gift of a forever changed life that will no doubt be a lot more interesting from now on (for me AND the cat)!

Here's a better video...don't know why the earlier version was all choppy..tried several different types of files..boo!

Get Down!

Guillermo wants to crawl so badly! I think he's making it harder than it needs to be. See for yourself.

Summer is coming!

Guillermo is trying on his new life vest for his summer water debut! Seems to like it..has that smug face on. He has also just cut his second bottom tooth, and the doctor said that the top two are on their way soon! We had his 6 month appointment on Thursday. He weighs 20 lbs, 4 oz and is now 27 1/4 inches tall. In other news, we recently took him to the eye doctor after the doctor found that his left pupil was bigger than his right. The eye doctor seems to think this is fine as long as there are no big changes. The pupil is always a bit bigger and his eye droops a bit (we think he got the droopy eye from his mom though, and that it's just the way his eye will always be rather than an "issue"). Anyway, if you look back at photos, you can see the pupil...we never noticed until the pediatrician saw it!

Happy Half Year!

Guillermo is six months old today! Hoorah! So, what has he been up to lately? Well, he cut his first tooth (bottom left) a few days ago, and as it continues to grow in, he is super cranky. He has not been napping much at all and waking about every two hours at night (sometimes crying out as he wakes). We're hoping that this passes for his sake and ours! So, some milestones so far:

  • Babbling (ba-ba, da-da, tha-tha, wa-wa)
  • Sitting for minutes at a time unassisted
  • Pulling to all fours and moving back and forth
  • Eating rice cereal and carrots (starting a green veggie next week)
  • Standing with help
  • Can pull from sitting to standing
  • Scooting backwards and in circles (this is frustrating for him since he goes away from things he wants rather than toward them and hasn't figured out that if he turns so he's not facing the toy, then scoots back towards it, he can get to it)
  • Passing toys from hand to hand and grabbing at things he wants (including dad's glasses and other shiny, pretty things)
Well, six months has flown by even with this LONG winter, and it's hard to believe that in six more, he'll be celebrating his first birthday. Amazing!

A little chatting

It was a beautiful 74 degree day today--so nice that we took TWO walks! One at Manito Park and one around the neighborhood. Everyone else was out working in their yards, but we have yet to buy the necessary tools for yard work, and Bill was on call, so we had an excuse to enjoy the sunshine! Afterwards, we chatted with Guillermo. Here he is showing off some of his sounds (warning, gratuitous slobber scene):

Big boy

We went to the doc yesterday because we thought G had an ear infection. It was just teething. He's pulling at his right ear like crazy and such a grouch! This shot was taken today after we got home from class. Spring is in the air...he couldn't be happier to go pantless! On a funny note, he was weighed. His 5.5 months weigh in...19 lbs, 1 oz!

Making faces

Guillermo's scrunch face...he's into no napping the last few days..maybe that's where the face came from? No, actually, he's not at all upset in this picture, just getting ready to babble..I guess he has to get his face warmed up or something!

Movie recommendation

So, Guillermo gave me a 90 minute nap this morning! I used it to watch a movie since I haven't seen anything since summer. I decided to spend the $4.99 to 'rent' Once from Comcast. I had heard a bit about it...being that I have a BIT of a weakness for singer-songwriters, I thought it was a good choice. After spending my 90 free minutes completely enthralled, I would HIGHLY recommend the film. It's short, sweet and wonderfully filmed. The story is timeless, the actors are great and the music is lovely.

Toes and 'school'

Guillermo is almost able to suck his toes..something he's been really excited about for a while now..he's been trying to reach his foot up to his mouth for days, but it's not quite there yet. Maybe tomorrow. Oops..Bill just walked in and said he saw him actually sucking them! Hoorah for toes!

Also, today we went to 'school'! We started a PEPS (Program for Early Parenting Support) at the local co-op preschool. He really enjoyed the class which we'll now go to every Thursday for two hours. We sang songs, had story time and played with other kids. The second part of class is for moms to discuss how they are doing. Great fun and great to meet 30-something moms! The great thing is that he can start 'family pre-school' at 10 months. It's a co-op preschool which means that I'll co-teach with all moms/dads that are enrolled and have a great time socializing with other babies/kids! Such a great option and not too pricey either as it's offered by the local community college.

Tongue

Looks like Guillermo might have the whole "I stick my tongue out when I concentrate" thing going on. Seems to be a family thing. I think Uncle John and Cousin Rachel both do or did this! OH, and yes, that is drool on his forehead in the big pic...this was after the keys session. I have a feeling he might be thinking about teething. He is chomping down on everything including fingers (anyone's will do), toys (even plush toys), and tonight he tried to eat dad's glasses after pulling them off.

Talking

I know that he won't be making these cute faces forever, so I'm trying to take a bunch of pics. This is mid "talk"...he likes to lecture....

Four months old

Guillermo is four months old now. He had his appointment today. He only had 2 shots and an oral vaccine and will get the rest in a month. We are going to try to do Dr. Sears vaccine schedule since he has had a reaction to the aluminum in the vaccines. So far today his leg seems to be OK! Yeah! Here are his 'vitals':

Weight: 16 lbs, 15 oz (88%) (What? One oz away from 17 lbs!?)

Height: 26 inches (87%)

Travelin' man

Guillermo's first hotel...it was nice! We stayed on the 23rd floor in downtown Seattle with a city view...ah, how we miss it! Guillermo would have preferred to bring the bed home for his future enjoyment! Needless to say, he slept very well after a big weekend with his grandparents and a whole day of meeting Seattle friends. All that being charming makes a baby tired!

The Ball

Guillermo's interpretation of what one does with a ball.

Sunday, February 10, 2008

Giggles

The video isn't all that great of quality, but you can hear a baby giggling which is the best sound in the world! The first part is just so you can see what Bill is doing to make Guillermo laugh..then it cuts out to Guillermo laughing his head off. Enjoy!

New chair and "reating"

This is Guillermo in his new Bumbo doing one of his favorite things--"reating"--reading and eating books. This happens to be his favorite book STILL, "Water Water Everywhere"...maybe he's going to be a water man like his Grandpa Ken!

More snow

Guillermo's BIG snowsuit and our house (the white one) before more new inches in the last few days. The plowed piles are much higher now!

Hats

We are having another weekend of snow...it makes for a boy in many hats. Every time we go out, we have to bundle Guillermo up, then cover him up from head to toe. Poor child...after Hawaii, we think he's quite confused about why he is now in the frozen tundra and doesn't have a grandma in the backseat staring at him everywhere he goes! Anyway, the hat in pic #1 is too small, and the hat in pic #2 is too big...poor guy!

Bragging

He's just so cute! I can't stop posting pics :) Thanks to Mel for this hilarious towel...

Rolled over!

So, the child rolled from tummy to back today. It was quite by accident and he looked a little confused as to why he all of a sudden had a view of the yellow ceiling instead of his new favorite toy the turtle (Honu). Here he is a few minutes afterwards.

Happy Three Months

Guillermo turned 3 months old on Wednesday. Here is his "size" photo.

Baby's first LONG trip

Guillermo hanging out at the beach...he seemed to like it..even the sand that eventually got in his face. Click the pic above for more pics of the Maui trip. We went to celebrate my parents' 40th wedding anniversary which was Jan 13. Congrats you too...and never had a fight, they claim :) They are still there enjoying the sun and surf...

Guillermo did so great! He was a perfect little traveler and LOVED spending time with his grandparents, being warm and flirting with people at all three airports!!

Wednesday, January 9, 2008

Snow!

Well, the last three days have brought snow, but we got 9 inches last night on top of the snow we already had...and all a day before going to Hawaii! Talk about a weather change! I'm stuck here at the house for the last three days and Bill is taking the car with studs to work. It's kinda fun though! And pretty...

Evening workout

Guillermo is getting so close to rolling over, he wants to so badly. But for right now he has to keep working on it.

Vaccine Update

Guillermo is doing much better, the swelling and redness have gone down and currently he is cooing at Amy. We'll keep given him Tylenol and snuggling with him. Above you can see him showing "mom" that he isn't sick, in fact check out these pecs.

When Vaccines Attack!

Crazy day, I got a call from Amy at 2pm and both she and Guillermo were crying. Poor little guy developed a reaction to his shots, his doctor thinks maybe to the aluminum in DTaP (diptheria, tetanus and pertusssis). Anyway, he was in a lot of pain and his leg was hot red and swollen. I rushed home and we all raced back to the Doctor's office, where he was examined and given some Tylenol (one of my "Desert Island Drugs").

Everything is going to be alright, we just need to keep dosing him with Tylenol, keep a cool compress on his leg and keep consoling him. Amy is doing a great job on that front. His leg is already less swollen and red, though we were warned that it will be intermittently hot and swollen over the next day or so. So say a little prayer to God or Chaos or what have you tonight for our little guy.

All about Guillermo and Alma. Our little people.
